Glossary

CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) is a gene editing technology that give scientists the ability to change an organism’s DNA. This technology allows genetic material to be added, removed or altered at particular locations in the gene through the use of an enzyme. This is adopted from a natural occurring technique that bacteria uses to protect itself from viruses. This is an nee technique that is of great interest in the prevention and treatment of human diseases as well as improving agricultural output (NIH, 2020).
